A few years back I had this amazing opportunity to study with Mary Ellen Mark for one weekend in her studio in Soho. It was the most incredible experience. She is so inspiring. Here are a few images I took with me for her to critique. These were her favorites. Used the Hasselblad and Kodak Tri-X.

Shadows make things seem real to me. Today, as on most wintry days in the Willamette Valley, there are no shadows. The night blends slowly into day and slowly into night again, and the world lacks the sharp edges that sunlight and shadows give it.
