well, you ask....why have i posted this photo? well.... why not? it makes me happy on this kind of crappy day. you can click on it to enlarge and really see what's going on... it is a pic of two my grandfather's brothers and their wives in somewhere, texas.  what are they doing? who knows... but i would love to have been there that day. i love the watermelons in the foreground. it makes me wish i could've been part of these simpler times. i am feeling all old-timey... i watched "it's a wonderful life" the other night. funny, but something was different for me this time when i watched it.  i don't know what it was... but it made me wish we were back when the men and women wore hats and dressed up ... there were no credit cards or political correctness or bailouts or crazy terrorists and people were friendly....thanks for humoring me for a bit in my ideal old-timey world...

on another note...
today has been a bit of a bummer. not sure why? it is COLD out...with lots and lots and lots of snow..... nothing out of the ordinary for upstate new york. i won't complain because the snow makes it feel all christmas-ey...which is nice. so tonight, i thought i would get more into the holiday spirit by making some holiday-ey candy. for days now,  i couldn't get this cashew brittle recipe out of my mind... so i finally bought the stuff to make it and well....ugh... it totally flopped. why does it take making mistakes to learn??

No, not I. It's a great picture.

"what are they doing?"

The hanging purse is interesting--as is the hanging underwear. The cot--and underwear--would indicate that they are camping, a private family camp, I should think. I can't identify the trees, which is too bad because that would help me place where they are.

I wish to god I could still get melons as big as those as I could easily eat one all by myself in two to three days. They had some big portions too looks like, a veritable melon feast.
